The Beauty of Patience: Capturing a mesmerising Autumn photo

The journey begins

Imagine standing by the loch, the air crisp and cool, as the first hints of light begin to dance across the water.

On my third day, after two mornings of less-than-ideal conditions, the universe finally decided to cooperate.

The sky transformed into a canvas of gentle pastels, a breathtaking backdrop that made every element of the landscape sing. Capturing this moment in October, at the height of autumn colours, added an extra layer of magic. The vibrant hues of the season complemented the soft morning light, creating a scene that felt almost surreal.

The art of composition

Composing this scene was no small feat. Each aspect—the island of trees, the majestic mountains, the inviting boat pier—was a contender for the spotlight. But in the end, I chose to let the expansive sky take centre stage, allowing its soft hues to dominate the frame while still honouring the quiet presence of the isle and pier. This decision was a reminder that sometimes, less is more.

The benefits of revisiting

Returning to the same location multiple times can be a game-changer, especially in the ever-changing Scottish weather. Each visit offers a fresh perspective, revealing new moods and colours that can transform a familiar scene into something extraordinary.

The unpredictability of nature means that what you see one day can be entirely different the next, making each trip a unique adventure. This time, my patience paid off, and I was rewarded with a stunning display of light that I might have missed had I not returned.

It's worth noting that I don't drive; I get to locations by public transport or taxi. To be close to a particular location, I try to find accommodation nearby, if possible. In this case, St Fiilian's has a few lovely places to offer, so I recommend checking those out.
